Modulating Through The Life Space:

A Sonnet of Sonnets, by John Lewis Smith

Sonnet #05: Senior School

The naming of the parts took place today
We fired blank rounds from 303s for kicks
At school on Tuesdays we would get to play
With Bren guns in the ACF for kids.
Four hundred adolescent boys constrained
Within the confines of the school and grounds.
No girls allowed: a policy that’s aimed
To make us all emotionally sound.
We come to grips with 1950s rock
We jump the fence to go to see a flick
Black Russian cigarettes we like a lot
We drink some beer and try not to be sick.
The 60s herald change thatís overdue
Impatiently, we leave to grab what’s new.
